Makeup Beauty Tips – No matter what age!

I’m not into a lot of makeup. I like a little bit to cover the flaws, but I like it simple and fast. It’s 10 minutes or less for me or I don’t want anything to do with it. Simple. Some people go all out and bake that face and that’s ok. You be you, girl!

Let’s talk about some simple makeup beauty tips, no matter what age you are or how much makeup you put on.

Foundation or no foundation? Doesn’t matter. Let’s talk makeup accents. So, start with a fresh, clean, moisturized face or add some foundation first. Either way, you are sure to knock ’em dead with these accents.

I came, I saw, I CONTOURED

Contouring is a way to sculpt your face and you can do it just a little bit or to the extreme. You make sharp lines at the top of your forehead, down the edges of your nose, and just below your cheek bones. Then, you blend, blend, blend. It adds a bit of definition to your face and enhances your features in the best way possible. You can also put a bit under your jawline and chin and a little under your bottom lip for that perfect pout. Contour is usually 2 to 3 shades darker than your foundation.

Basically, contour gives light and shadow to your face. It’s a darker brown shade of foundation. You don’t use it all over your face, just in the areas I mentioned above. Your darker foundation is called contour and your natural color foundation is called your highlight. You can use foundation sticks to make it a whole lot easier, but I personally like a cream based formula. Mine comes in a little tin and I use my fingers to apply it. Here is a diagram of where to put the contour (dark foundation) and highlight (your regular color foundation.) Be sure to look at the key at the bottom of the picture.

So, to be clear, you don’t HAVE to have contour. It just sculpts your face and highlights your good parts! Check out these pictures of the different ways you can contour based on your face shape. Click the link below. There are tons of videos you can watch as well.

EYES are the windows to the soul

Let’s face it! We all want our eyes to pop, but some of us don’t do such a good job. Let’s go over some tips for applying eye makeup. The first thing you need is some good eye shadow brushes. Three to be exact. You need a good shader brush, a firm brush, and a small angled brush. Grab the firm brush and put a base shade all over your whole eyelid for a dramatic smokey eye or stop just above the brow line for a traditional look.

Wipe off the brush after each color change. Next, grab a darker color and put it in the crease of your eye. Just rub it back and forth and be sure if you have hooded eyes to go a little above the brow line. If you don’t, the color will disappear when you open your eyes. You can even take a shimmer color and put in the corner near your nose. Last, take the blending brush and swoop it all over and blend the eye colors so you don’t have visible lines between the 3 colors.

Now, take your small angled brush and your dark eye shadow to the lower lid line and the upper lid line. This is used in place of eyeliner. This is important, especially for us over 40 ladies! Now, I know you are in love with your eyeliner, but using a dark color shadow will do a better job and you don’t have smudges. You can use the eyeliner, but give the eye shadow a chance and see if you like it!

Follow up with your favorite waterproof mascara! The last thing you can do is to follow up with a light cover of shimmer eye shadow. A pearl color or any pale will do, especially in the corner of the eye! Now, you’re good to go!

My LIPS are sealed

Lipstick improves your confidence. Take my word for it. I should use it more, but as a busy teacher I just don’t have time and the kids just don’t care. I want to be a lipstick re-applier, but let’s be honest. If it hasn’t happened yet, it probably won’t. I also don’t line my lips. Wow! What a confession! I know people who do and they look fabulous. Another confession: I am not into bold colors. I am a neutral tones type of girl and that’s ok. I do know, however, that lip liner and some translucent powder make your lip color stay on longer. Another way to help it stay on is to use a primer, concealer, or just apply a little of your foundation.

“They” say that wearing lipstick makes your eyes pop and it can also draw more attention to your face, so put it on and get all the attention you want. Strut it!

Turn the other CHEEK

Did you know that WHERE you put your blush can make your face look thinner or fatter? After all these years of using cheek color, I had no idea until this past year. I just always put it on the ball of my cheeks. Well, I started using a cream blush and looked up a couple of tutorials and found out I had been applying it wrong my whole life! Yes, placement matters! Did you also know that you can use your lipstick as cheek colors? Seriously!! I was last year years old when I learned that. I mean, I knew you could use lipstick as a substitute when you ran out of blush, but to use it entirely as a blush and a lip color? Yes! Saves me some money for sure! So, if you love that lipstick, use it as cheek color, too!

You should apply color based on your face shape. Check out the chart above to see the right way to apply blush.

Now, lets talk about creme vs powder blush.

Cream– Best for dry skin because it moisturizes the skin more, but works on all face types. Cons – You have to be delicate because it is so much thicker than powder. It also may need re-applying.

Powder – Best for oily skin, but anyone can use it. It lasts longer on the face than cream. Cons – you can’t use it as a lipstick.
