Shoes can make or break an outfit. In my last post, I mentioned how I hate a cute outfit and grungy shoes. Don’t tell me you don’t look at people’s feet! Come on…you know you do! Let’s break down shoes for the summer and spring starting with super casual all the way up to heels. (Psst…hey Southerners, we all know you wear Flip Flops with every outfit in the summer and spring, but let’s try to kick it up a notch and wear some other stylish shoes for a change! For those flip-flop haters, it gets hot down here in the south! Don’t be a judgy pants!)
Flip Flops
These days you can find some super cute flip-flops that can go with most outfits. There are even really dressy flip-flops! I LOVE my flip-flops and we wear them down south for almost every season of the year. If you’re not from ’round here, the south has 2 seasons: winter and hot! We wear flip-flops with almost every outfit and almost every day.
There are a lot of reasons you shouldn’t wear them. They aren’t very good for arch support and they affect your stability. They don’t protect your feet from accidents. I can’t tell you how many times I have injured my feet and someone said, “You shouldn’t have been wearing those stupid flip-flops.” Not to mention, your feet get really dirty.
But, we southerners cannot live without them. Your feet can breathe in them when it gets so hot. The benefits of flip-flops are few, but they slide on and off quickly and you can take them anywhere. Oh, and there are some really fancy ones that sure make your outfit look cute. Oh, Oh….and they show off a good pedicure! And did I mention how many cute pairs you can get? I’m not saying you should wear flip-flops all day every day, but they are super cute, comfy, and quick to get on and off.
Sandals / Flats
Sandals and flats can dress up an outfit. They look better with outfits and there are so many styles to choose from. They are dressier than flip-flops and they still allow your feet to breathe. They are easy to put on and take off and they can be purchased at almost any clothing store.
To me, even though they look really cute, they usually hurt my feet. You really have to be particular if you have foot problems. Any sandals I get have to have some type of cushion or arch. I get really bummed out each year when I see other moms wearing cute flats. They simply hurt, but they sure are cute! Chances are, though, you don’t have to get old lady sandals. There are so many out there, I’m certain you can find a cute pair that fit nice and are in your budget. My husband always says that you get what you pay for. On that note, if you don’t care about comfort, then buy as many flats as you like because you can find so many inexpensive options to match each outfit. However, if you want a really good pair, be prepared to fork out a bit more money for comfort…and don’t forget the style!
Wedges
Wedges really fancy up an outfit and they make your legs look great! Unless you have issues with the toes and pad of your feet, they are comfy and stylish. You usually don’t have to worry about your arches hurting…something to do with the height I think. They are more comfortable than flats and they are easier to walk in than heels. And who doesn’t want to look taller, right? Well, we short people like to be taller. Every time I wear my wedges, I feel like I am seeing the world differently. Everything looks different from a higher angle. LOL.
Have I mentioned how good your calves look in wedges? Well, they look GREAT! You can wear wedges with dressy shorts, casual or dressy skirts, dresses and even dress pants. They look good on all body types and they are easy to walk in. Not to mention, there are so many styles to choose from.
Heels
Now, I am not a heels girl. If I had to choose a heel, it would be a kitten heel. Kitten heels are cute and they are easy to walk in. Heels are dressy and make an outfit go from a 1 to a 10. On the downside, they are really bad for your feet. They squish your toes and are bad for your back, but not so bad that you can’t tear up the town with them every once in a while.
Heels make your legs look fantastic! Heels also give us moms a lot of self-confidence. Go ahead and spend some quality money on these puppies. If you get a cheap pair, you will pay for it with blisters and pain. Getting a good quality pair will make a big difference. For summer and spring, you can even get heels that have straps so your feet don’t sweat. Did I mention how hot it is in the south? Open toed heels would be a great option if you live somewhere that’s hot. They are a great option for making an impact! Be sure to practice in them so you won’t fall on your face!
Shoes, Shoes, and MORE SHOES!
A mom can never have too many shoes, right? Well, our hubby’s might not agree, but you can’t blame a girl for wanting to look her best, right? Go ahead and snag a new pair for spring and summer and let us know where you got them. Post a picture for us so we can compliment you!
