All the ladies over 40, this post is for you!! If you are thinking about short hairstyles for women over 40, you have landed in the right place. Let’s go over a few short styles to see which one will be best for you, especially if you are trying to freshen up your look! Short hair is the best way to make a statement and it’s a great summer cut to cool off.
Pixie Cut
Since pixies are my favorite cut, let’s start here. Pixie cuts are short on the back and sides, a little longer on the top, but with short bangs. They highlight your natural beauty and are known as the “anti-aging” haircut. Not to mention, they are super easy to take care of. Five to ten minutes and you are out the door. A longer bang on the pixie is trendy right now, especially with highlights. A pixie cut goes with any face shape because of the trendy style. It’s fashionable, but everyone doesn’t love a pixie cut. I prefer the longer pixie cut with the long, triangular side bang, but that’s just me.
I used to always notice pixie cuts and wish that I could cut my hair that way. I would run in to all kinds of ladies with this style and compliment them and they would always encourage me to cut it. I put it off for years, but when I finally did, I loved it and I will never go back. What finally convinced me was a phone app where you could add your picture and put haircuts on to see what looks best on you. I don’t remember what app it was, but I bit the bullet and cut it shortly after I saw what I would look like.
If you are saying you won’t look good with a pixie, I bet you are wrong. Just do it! You can always grow it back out. If you cannot decide on which pixie to get, here is a Google search for you.

If you think you have a round, chunky face, don’t assume you won’t look good in a pixie! Google it! You will look amazing and it will look amazing on you. It’s a great way to boost your confidence and style. 2 for 1. An asymmetrical pixie would be best for you. Those are the ones with one side longer than the other. It thins out your face and it’s sexy, no matter your size!
Rounded Bob
This is my second favorite cut. The rounded bob looks great with bangs or no bangs. It is easy to take care of and you can wear it curly or straight. It is stylish and classic. You can stack the back and make the front longer (asymmetrical) or do it all in one length. If you have a round face, the asymmetrical is the way to go because it makes your face look more narrow. You can do some loose waves on the bob if you have thin or medium hair which gives it some texture and fullness.
Angled bobs go great with the messy look. This cut makes messy look sexy! So, no problem if you aren’t completely styled and combed. The bob is also a very manageable hair style. You can scrunch it up, leave it wavy, or flat iron it for a great, sleek look. If I had to give one con for this hair style, it would be that it’s not for the bushy haired lady. Well, if you flat iron it, it can look amazing, but please don’t just dry and go if you have frizzy hair. The intent here is classy and stylish. Might want another cut if you have a lot of bush up there.

Side swept/short bangs
This hair style NEVER goes out of fashion! It hides a multitude of sins, scars, etc. It is also very sexy to peek out of! Side swept bangs bring out your eyes and they balance out a wide forehead. I have had many a haircut with side swept bangs. My only issue is that the bangs have to be either short enough or long enough to not get into my eyes. I can’t stand it when it completely gets all in my face. If it’s long enough, you can tuck it behind your ear when it gets into your face too much. If it’s short enough, it will just scoot on over. It’s a sexy look!

Face Framing Bangs
Face framing bangs, or fringe bangs, gives you more styling options. You can do a side part or a split in the middle part for the bangs. This cut helps to elongate your face, so it would be great for round faces. No matter your face shape, face framing bangs give you a flattering look. You can leave them straight or feather them back a little. Lots of ladies even take it up a notch by highlighting these frames, which gives you a youthful, brightened up look.
You can layer them to your cheekbones or even a little longer to your chin or collarbone. They are very low maintenance and even work for curly hair. Even if you don’t cut your hair short, it breaks up long hair and keeps it from looking plain Jane. It’s a little sassy and wispy all in one.
